How to Read a Pool Service Quote: Chemicals, Extras, Contracts

A good pool service quote lists what each visit covers, how chemicals are billed, which jobs cost extra, and how the contract starts and ends. Ask for all of it in writing. Compare quotes line by line, not by the monthly total alone.

What should a pool service quote include?

A quote should state what each visit covers, how chemicals are billed, which jobs cost extra, and the contract terms. If any of those four items is missing, ask for it before you agree. A short number on a text message is not a quote you can compare.

This post shows how to read each part. It does not give Marina prices. Marina Pool Services quotes each job and offers free estimates for qualifying services.

What does each visit cover?

Start with the task list. Two quotes with the same monthly total can cover very different work. Compare the lists in this table.

Task Ask the company
Water testing and balance Which items are tested? Chlorine, pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness, conditioner, salt?
Baskets Emptied every visit?
Filter Backwashed or cleaned when needed, or on a set schedule?
Vacuuming Every visit, or only if needed?
Brushing Walls and steps, every visit?
Notes Do you tell me what you did and found?

For comparison, Marina’s weekly pool service page lists water balance (chlorine, pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness, conditioner and salt if applicable), emptied baskets, filter backwashing as needed, and vacuuming and brushing as needed. If written visit notes matter to you, ask each company for them. See service log for what such notes can look like.

How are chemicals billed?

This is the line that confuses people most. Companies use three common models. The names below are plain-language labels, not official terms.

Model What it means What to ask
Included Chemicals are part of the flat fee Is there a limit? What happens in a very hot month or after a storm?
At cost Chemicals are billed on top of the visit fee How do you set the amount? Do I see the list?
Surcharge A fixed add-on fee for chemicals Can it change? When?

Angi’s Dallas page says that, because of local hard water, pros may add chemicals such as clarifiers, scale inhibitors and acid washes, which “can add $15 to $40 per month.” Angi also says pros often build extra chemical work into service packages because of heat and evaporation. That is Angi’s 2026 data, not a Marina number. Read the chemical surcharge entry and the chemical-only service entry for more.

Our pool water chemistry chart explains what the numbers on a test mean, so you know what the company is adjusting.

What counts as an extra?

Extras are jobs the weekly fee does not cover. Ask for the list in writing. Common ones include:

  1. Green pool cleanup after a storm or a missed week.
  2. Deep filter cleaning.
  3. Opening or closing a pool.
  4. Equipment repair or replacement.
  5. Part replacements, such as a worn basket or gauge.

Angi lists these Dallas figures for add-ons in its 2026 data: opening or closing at $230 to $480 per service, and green pool cleanup or a one-time deep clean at $280 to $580 per service. Use them as a rough guide only. Each company sets its own prices. To see what a green cleanup involves, read our green pool cleanup guide.

How do repairs get quoted?

Repairs should come with a diagnosis, a clear scope and your approval before work begins. Marina’s site says it will “diagnose the problem and recommend practical solutions based on your pool and equipment.” Ask any company whether a diagnostic fee applies and whether it is credited to the repair. Our glossary covers service call, diagnostic fee and parts and labor.

What should the contract say?

A contract should answer four questions:

  1. How long does it last?
  2. How do I change or stop service, and with how much notice?
  3. Can the price rise during the term, and how?
  4. What happens if you miss a visit?

Angi notes that ongoing contracts tend to lower the per-visit price compared with one-time calls. That can be a fair trade. Just make sure you can leave if service slips. Our guide on how to hire a pool company in Texas has more on this.

How do I compare two quotes?

Put them side by side and score each line. Use this short method:

  1. Copy each company’s task list into one table.
  2. Mark where one company covers more than the other.
  3. Add the chemical model and any known extras.
  4. Note the contract terms.
  5. Only then compare the total.

A lower number can hide a smaller scope. A higher number can include chemicals and a larger task list. The line-by-line view shows which is which. For broader context, see the pool service cost guide.

What questions should I ask before I say yes?

Bring a short list to the call. Ask what is covered in a normal week. Ask what changes after a big storm. Ask who to call if a visit is missed. Ask how you will learn about problems the crew finds. Clear answers now prevent surprises later.

What if I only get a range?

Some jobs cannot be priced until someone looks at the pool. That is normal for repairs and green pool cleanups. Ask when the exact quote will arrive and what could change it. Marina offers same-day estimates when scheduling allows.

Frequently asked questions

What should a pool service quote include?

It should list the visit schedule, the tasks on each visit, how chemicals are billed, what counts as an extra, and the contract terms. Ask for the quote in writing so you can compare it with others line by line.

Are chemicals included in weekly pool service?

It varies by company. Some include them in a flat fee, some bill them at cost, and some add a surcharge. Ask which one applies, and ask what is covered if heat or storms raise chlorine use.

What jobs are usually extra?

Green pool cleanup, opening or closing, filter deep cleans and equipment repairs are often priced apart from weekly care. Angi lists Dallas green pool cleanup at $280 to $580 per service in its 2026 data. Ask each company for its own list.

Should I worry about a long contract?

Read the terms before you sign. Ask how to change or stop service, and whether the price can rise. Angi notes that ongoing contracts tend to lower the per-visit price, so there can be a trade-off.

Does Marina Pool Services publish prices?

No. Marina quotes each job and offers free estimates for qualifying services. Call (817) 896-1120 or use the form at /contact to ask for one.
