Coppell’s Stage 1 plan limits lawn sprinklers to two days a week from May 1 to September 30. No outside watering is allowed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The city’s FAQ says existing pools may add water on the home’s watering day. These rules are as of October 2026.
What is Coppell’s water conservation plan?
On July 9, 2024, the Coppell City Council approved changes to its Water Conservation and Drought Contingency Plans. The new ordinance cut the drought stages from five to four. The city’s plan page says the ordinance sets the stages based on demand and the city’s ability to supply water.
Stage 1 is the lowest stage. The city describes it as the normal year-round recommendation, and says it will stay in Stage 1 all year unless the plan’s triggers are met. The city says it is not experiencing a water emergency.
What are the Stage 1 watering rules?
| Address type | Mandatory days, May 1 to September 30 |
|---|---|
| Residential, ending in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 | Tuesday and Saturday |
| Residential, ending in 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9 | Wednesday and Sunday |
| Businesses, city facilities and schools | Friday and Monday |
No outside watering is allowed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hand watering, non-spray drip systems and soaker hoses are allowed on all days at all times during Stage 1. The pool answer is in the next section. For the rest of the year, the city asks customers to voluntarily water no more than twice a week.
Can I fill or top off my pool in Coppell?
Yes, on your watering day. The city’s FAQ answers the pool question directly:
- Existing pools: Residents may add water to their pools on their identified watering day.
- Newly built pools: A first fill may happen on the identified watering day.
- Refills: The city encourages residents to explore a water delivery service.
The FAQ does not cover other stages. Stricter stages may add pool limits, so read the plan again if the city moves out of Stage 1. Our glossary explains water restrictions and drought.
How do I keep a pool full without wasting water?
Evaporation is the usual cause of a falling level. If the drop is fast, you may have a leak. Our pool leak bucket test guide shows how to check.
Steps to follow:
- Check the stage and your address day on the city FAQ.
- Top off on your watering day.
- Test the water after you add more. Our pool water chemistry chart lists the readings.
- Skip a big partial drain and refill unless a pro advises it.
- If you use an automatic water leveler, make sure its timing fits the rules.
An automatic fill can add water on a day that is not your watering day. Check how your leveler is set.
What if I cannot follow the schedule?
The city offers a watering variance for people who cannot comply or who believe compliance would cause harm or damage to their property. The FAQ links a variance request form. To talk to someone or to get a form by mail, the FAQ lists 972-462-5155. Permits depend on the water situation at the time of the request, so ask early.
Where does Coppell’s water come from?
The city’s FAQ says Coppell buys treated water from Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) under a contract for 18.5 million gallons a day. The supply also includes ground storage reservoirs. The city must keep conservation and drought plans under its DWU contract.
This post gives no hardness figure for Coppell. Test your pool water for its own readings.
Where are the official rules?
Read the Coppell Stage 1 FAQ and the Water Conservation Plan page. The FAQ says violations can bring a fine up to $2,000. Report water waste through the city’s form, which the FAQ links.
