Evaporation loss

Evaporation loss is the normal water loss from heat, wind, and sun that is not a leak.

Every pool loses water to the air. Hot, dry, windy days in North Texas speed this up. Heated water and water features lose more.

If the level drops evenly and slowly, it is probably evaporation. If it drops faster than your weather explains, or the bucket test shows a gap, look for a leak. Top off water before the level reaches the skimmer opening, and check city water restrictions before you fill.
