Safety cover

A safety cover is a strong, tight cover that blocks access to the pool when no one is swimming.

Safety covers are made to support weight and keep children and pets out. They differ from light solar or leaf covers, which do not hold up a person.

In North Texas, most pools run all year, so many owners never use a winter cover. If you do use one, keep water off the top and keep the pool chemistry balanced underneath. A cover is only one layer. The CDC advises a four-sided fence that fully encloses the pool and separates it from the house.
