Salt cell
The salt cell holds the plates inside a salt chlorine generator that make chlorine, and it wears out over time.
The cell is where salt turns into chlorine. Electric current runs across metal plates, and the plates slowly wear. Many cells last a few years, depending on use and care. Check your maker's guidance.
Scale on the plates cuts output. Many cells need a periodic inspection and, when scaled, a gentle acid wash per the manual. Low salt, cold water, or poor flow can trigger error lights. Weak chlorine with good salt points to a worn cell. A pro can test and replace it.
