Salt level
Salt level is the parts per million of salt in a saltwater pool, and the cell maker sets the target.
A salt chlorine system only works when salt is in the right range. Too low and the cell makes little chlorine. Too high and the system may shut off or wear out faster.
The target range comes from your cell's manual, not from a general rule. Check the model on your salt chlorine generator and test salt with a reliable strip or meter. Rain and splash-out lower salt over time. Add salt only as the manual says. If the cell shows a low-salt light even when salt tests fine, the cell may be worn.
