Equalizer line
An equalizer line is a pipe that links the skimmer to the pool so the pump cannot run dry if the water drops.
If the water falls below the skimmer opening, the pump can pull air and run dry. An equalizer line gives the pump a second water source, usually from below. A dry-running pump can overheat and ruin its seal and housing quickly.
Signs of trouble: a pump that gurgles or loses prime when the water is low. In North Texas, summer heat and wind can drop water fast. Keep the level at the middle of the skimmer opening. If you see air in the pump basket at a normal level, ask a pro to check the line.
