Filter grids

Filter grids are the fabric panels inside a DE filter that hold the powder.

Grids are fabric-covered panels, also called fingers, that hold DE powder inside the tank. Water passes through the powder and the fabric. Dirt stays behind.

Torn or clogged grids cause cloudy water and powder blowing back into the pool. Look at them when you open the tank, usually once a year. Wash them with a hose and soak them in a filter cleaner if oily. Replace torn grids right away. Handle the powder with a mask, since the dust is a lung hazard.
