Delamination

Delamination is when a pool finish lifts, peels, or sounds hollow as it separates from the shell.

The finish loses its bond to the shell, so small pieces may flake off. You may feel rough patches or see bulges when you swim. Sometimes you hear a hollow sound when you tap.

Causes include poor prep, water getting behind the finish, or movement in the shell. Small spots can spread. Have a pool builder or finish contractor look at it early. Do not scrub delaminated areas hard, since you can peel more off.
