Plaster
Plaster is a mix of white cement and marble dust used as the smooth interior finish of many concrete pools.
Plaster is the classic pool finish. It is smooth but porous, so it reacts to the water. Low pH or low calcium can etch it, and high calcium can leave scale.
Signs of trouble: rough patches, stains, chalky spots, or hollow-sounding areas. Plaster often lasts many years, but life span depends on water balance and workmanship. Keeping your water balanced is the best way to protect it. Resurfacing is a separate trade, so ask a pool builder about it.
