Multiport valve
A multiport valve is a valve on a sand or DE filter that sets filter, backwash, rinse, and other modes.
The multiport valve is the control knob on top or side of a sand or DE filter. It has settings like Filter, Backwash, Rinse, Waste, Recirculate, and Closed.
Always turn the pump off before you move the handle. Moving it while running can damage the internal spider gasket. A leak from the valve, water at the waste line while on Filter, or a handle that will not seat points to a worn gasket. A pro can swap it. Know which setting you need for backwash.
