GFCI

A GFCI is a ground fault circuit interrupter, an outlet or breaker that cuts power fast when it detects a shock hazard.

Water and electricity are a risky mix, so GFCI protection is a common safeguard on pool equipment circuits. When current leaks to ground, the GFCI trips in a fraction of a second.

If a GFCI trips again and again, something is wrong. Common causes include a wet or failing pump motor, a bad light, or a damaged cord. Pressing reset over and over does not fix it. Turn off the equipment and call a qualified electrician or pool pro. Rules vary by city and code year, so ask your electrician what your pool needs.
