Cartridge filter
A cartridge filter uses pleated fabric cartridges that you rinse with a hose or replace when worn.
A cartridge filter traps fine dirt in pleated fabric. It has no backwash, so you pull the cartridges and hose them off. That saves water, which is a plus in dry months.
Clean it when the pressure gauge climbs well above its clean starting reading. Your filter manual gives the exact rise that means it is time. Deep clean with a filter cleaner once or twice a year. Replace cartridges when the pleats flatten or tear, often after a few years. A new cartridge helps flow and clarity.
