Light niche

A light niche is the housing set in the pool wall that holds the pool light and its cord.

The niche keeps the light in place and protects the cord where it enters the wall. A cracked niche, loose ring, or bad seal can let water reach wiring or leak out of the pool.

Signs of trouble: a light that sits loose, a gap around the fixture, or a pool that drops water near the light. When a light is pulled for service, the technician checks the niche and the cord. Do not pull a light out of its niche yourself. Power must be off, and the wiring work belongs to a qualified pro.
