Igniter
The igniter is the part that lights the gas burner in a heater.
The igniter starts the flame. Older heaters use a standing pilot. Newer ones use an electric hot surface or spark igniter. If it fails, the heater clicks or glows but never lights.
A worn igniter is a common cause of a no-heat call. Dirt, moisture, and age all play a part. Gas heaters can also lock out for low flow, see pressure switch. Do not work on the gas side yourself. A qualified pro should test and replace the igniter.
