# Waterline tile

Waterline tile is the band of tile at the water's edge that resists stains, oils, and scale.

The waterline is where sunscreen, oils, and minerals collect. Tile resists that buildup better than plaster, and it is easier to scrub.

Hard Texas water leaves white or gray scale on tile as water evaporates. Scrub with a tile-safe brush and a cleaner made for pool tile. Do not use harsh acids on grout or stone without checking the label. Loose or missing tile is a sign of a shell or freeze problem, so watch for it.
