# Storm runoff

Storm runoff is rain that carries dirt, pollen, and nutrients into the pool.

Heavy rain washes soil, leaves, fertilizer, and yard waste into the water. It also dilutes chlorine and can lower pH and alkalinity.

After a storm, empty baskets, remove debris, and test the water. Shock or add chlorine if the test says so, following the product label. Check that deck drains work and that yard runoff does not flow toward the pool. Fast action prevents a green pool a few days later.
