# Live oak debris

Live oak debris is the leaves and catkins that live oak trees drop and that load skimmers and filters.

Live oaks shed in spring, and the catkins come in thick. They clog skimmer baskets and pass into the filter as fine mush. They also add organic matter that uses up chlorine.

Empty baskets more often during heavy drop. Clean or backwash the filter when the pressure gauge climbs. A full basket cuts flow to the pump, which can strain it. If trees hang over the pool, plan for extra weekly cleaning.
