# Green algae

Green algae is the most common pool algae, and it turns water green and can bloom within days.

Green algae loves warm sun, low chlorine, and poor circulation. In North Texas summers, a pool can go from clear to green in a few days after a storm or missed service.

To clear it, brush every surface, run the filter, and raise [free chlorine](https://marinapool.multisites.ai/glossary/free-chlorine) with a [shock](https://marinapool.multisites.ai/glossary/shock). Test [cyanuric acid](https://marinapool.multisites.ai/glossary/cyanuric-acid) and [pH](https://marinapool.multisites.ai/glossary/ph) too. Vacuum or filter out dead algae and clean the filter.
