# Freeze

A freeze is air temperature at or below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, the point where water turns to ice.

North Texas sees short freezes most winters. A brief dip rarely hurts a pool, because large water bodies cool slowly. The risk is to the equipment, since small pipes, pumps, and filters hold less water and freeze first.

When a freeze is forecast, keep the pump running if your system is set up for it, and check your freeze protection. Unprotected water in pipes can freeze and crack them. See [Freeze Guard](https://marinapool.multisites.ai/our-services/freeze-guard) for how equipment protection works.
