# Booster pump

A booster pump is a small extra pump that powers a pressure-side cleaner.

A booster pump gives a [pressure-side cleaner](https://marinapool.multisites.ai/glossary/pressure-side-cleaner) the extra push it needs. It takes water from the return line and boosts the pressure, and it has its own motor and a separate power circuit.

It needs a clean [basket](https://marinapool.multisites.ai/glossary/pump-basket) and a hose without kinks. A humming booster that does not move may need a new [capacitor](https://marinapool.multisites.ai/glossary/capacitor) or seal, like a main pump. It also needs its own power, so wiring work belongs to a qualified pro. Run it only when the cleaner runs, to save power.
